Drake Seaman, Southwestern artist, was born 1935 and died December 2000. Prior to becoming an artist, Drake was a working cowboy on ranches in Wyoming. His working knowledge was combined with artistic skill to provide a window into the living west. He was a resident of Williams, Arizona and painted in sumi ink, acrylics, and oil using brush and knife applications. Seaman’s subject matter includes cowboys, horse, cattle and landscapes.

He studied at the Kachina Art School with Jay Datus. From 1969 to 1970, he was an instructor of landscape painting at Brooks Fine Arts Center in Santa Barbara. The watercolor portrait of Drake shown to the top-left was painted by his student Karen Perkins in 1981.

His work has been exhibited at the San Francisco Palace of Arts and Sciences, and the Smithsonian Institution. He has paintings in the Whitney Museum of Art in Cody, Wyoming. Much of his collection resides with his wife in Williams, Arizona.
